White Lives Matter Rally Held in Shelbyville, Second Rally Cancelled

White supremacist groups calling themselves the Nationalist Front planned White Lives Matter rallies in Shelbyville and Murfreesboro, Tennessee on October 28. The day before the event business boarded their windows and closed early in anticipation of the demonstration turning violent in Murfreesboro. The day of the rally counter-protesters greatly outnumbered the rally goers, and the event in Murfreesboro was canceled. One arrest was made by police after a protester in the White Lives Matter rally jumped a security fence.

Security for the rally in Shelbyville was strict. There were lists of banned items and two checkpoints on both sides of the protest areas where police conducted searches and used metal detectors on anyone entering. After the first rally dispersed the groups participating in the White Lives Matter rally held a picnic in Henry Horton State Park as hundreds of counter-protesters and a few white supremacists gathered in Murfreesboro before the cancellation was publicly announced.
