Protests of Jason Stockley Verdict in West St. Louis and at Billy Joel concert on September 21

The seventh day of protests in response to the Jason Stockley acquittal for shooting and killing of Anthony Lamar Smith kicked off in Forest Park with a couple hundred protesters gathering and demonstrating inside the Cheshire Hotel where organizers claimed that the guests staying there were told to avoid Downtown St. Louis hotels after the unrest the weekend before. Traffic was blocked for several minutes at the intersection of Skinker and Clayton until police threatened arrest if protesters remained in the street. The group dispersed with no arrests.

A few hours later several hundred protesters came to Keiner Plaza near Busch Stadium to demonstrate at a sold-out Billy Joel concert. The focus of this demonstration was for white allies of the movement to attend. As the march reached one of the entrances to the stadium a metal fence separating concert goers and protesters was toppled over. Police held up pepper spray as the fence was uprighted, but they did not discharge them. As the concert started the sound system drowned out the chants and the group marched back to Keiner Plaza where protesters passed out food and water.
