The People’s Protest of Donald Trump in Springfield, MO

Hundreds of protesters lined the blocks of Glenstone Avenue from Division to Commercial Street during President Trump’s visit to Springfield, Missouri on August 30, 2017. The protest was organized by Springfield Indivisible with several other groups from the state of Missouri participating. The group gathered at the Teamsters Local 245 where speakers outlined what the protest was about and gave de-escalation training. Protesters held signs and signed petitions about issues including Trump’s transgender military ban, his immigration ban, marijuana legalization, and universal healthcare.

A little more than a mile down Glenstone Avenue at the intersection of Kearney Street President Trump supporters were gathering to get a glimpse of the President’s motorcade as it drove by. Throughout the day some protesters walked to Kearney Street where some arguments sprung up among the groups, but things remained peaceful.

The President spoke at a closed event at Loren Cook Company, a manufacturing company that has two locations in Springfield. During Trump’s speech, he spoke about lowering the corporate tax rate to 15% from the 35% tax rate it is at now.
