Anti Fascist Protest of White Supremacist Rally in Pikeville, Kentucky

Around 200 antifa protesters faced a little over 100 white supremacists who were having a rally at the County Courthouse on Main Street in Pikeville, KY today. The groups who participated in the rally included the League of the South, the National Socialist Movement, the Traditionalist Worker Party, and others. Another group called the Oath Keepers came armed and said they were providing security for both groups’ first amendment rights, even though they disagreed with the protesters on either side.  Both groups shouted insults and threats, but there was no violence. The threat of a violent confrontation had lead a group planing a peace rally that was going to happen at the same time was cancelled and nearly every business in Downtown Pikeville closed for the weekend.

A local activist from Pikeville handed out slices of pizza and bottles of water to anyone who wanted it during the protest on April 29, 2017.
