A small memorial service was held in the late morning and into the afternoon on August 9, 2016 at the Canfield Green Apartments for the second anniversary of Michael Brown’s death and the protests that followed. Community leaders and members of Brown’s family spoke and released doves. A four and a half minute moment of silence was held during the service to represent the four and a half hours Mike Brown;s body was in the street after he was shot and killed by Officer Darren Wilson.
Later in the night a march temporarily shut down traffic on West Florissant Avenue in Ferguson where many of the violent protests had occurred in 2014. After police moved in to get everyone on the sidewalk they left the area, and a new march started. One protester walked into the street and was hit by a car traveling at a high rate of speed. As the car tried to get away it was chased by protesters and multiple people started firing guns at it. No one was hit by the bullets.
